At the intersection of hunger relief and food waste is where our chefs do their work.
Every day in our community, untold amounts of perfectly viable prepared food and raw ingredients get thrown into the landfill. Until now, chefs, caterers and other food companies have not had an easy way to get this food to those who could use it.
Feed Louisville's kitchen fills that gap. Our team is able to divert food from being thrown away and repurpose it into beautiful meals to send out to our houseless and food insecure community. Our Food Rescue Program allows restaurants, caterers and other licensed food producers to donate viable, safely held food that we incorporate into our daily production of hundreds of hot and hearty meals. These meals go directly to the streets or people experiencing food insecurity each day.
Our work has impact in three ways:
Our Food Rescue Program partners are relieved to see their hard work not go into the landfill, and instead see it used to feed people who need it.
Our community feeding partners are empowered with one of the most critical resources in their work: taking care of hunger so they can address the other challenges facing our unhoused and food insecure neighbors here in Louisville.
And most importantly, the people who eat these meals every day are getting food that is nutrient dense, culturally thoughtful and made with a lot of love. For some, it may be the only meal they have today.
