​Once a person has experienced any period of time living on the streets, the path back to housed becomes a difficult one to navigate. Our model for helping folks on that journey relies on short term hotel stays, where we help them to stabilize indoors to identify their unique barriers to permanent housing. 

​Our team of care coordinators work one-on-one with houseless folks in multiple hotel locations around Louisville, including the Arthur Street Hotel, where our team's offices are located. Since the beginning of our hotel-to-housed program in the fall of 2022 at Arthur Street Hotel, we have successfully assisted an average of 12 people a month move from the streets to their own permanent housing. 

This part of our work rests on the Housing First model– the principle that people don’t have to do anything to be worthy of housing, it’s their basic human right. Although the journey from homeless to housed is challenging, we have built a system to help walk people along it as quickly as possible. 

Our Process

​We address the physical, mental and emotional issues that come along with the experience of homelessness. That is different for each person. We PARTNER WITH MULTIPLE AGENCIES with whom we connect as resources to tackle their respective needs. Within the scope of that care, we encounter substance use disorders, mental health diagnoses, physical health issues and a multitude of other issues that can be both the root cause of their homelessness, and the traumatic result of it.

There are gaps in the current system that make it difficult for someone currently living on the streets to obtain the necessary documentation to qualify for a HOUSING VOUCHER. We are helping to navigate those gaps. From birth certificates to personal identification to resolving past legal issues, removing the blocks to getting a housing voucher are essential. 
Once a housing voucher is secured, we help with the next steps of SECURING PERMANENT HOUSING through property searches, negotiating with property managers and the actual move-in.

    Our team continues to offer AFTER CARE once we have successfully housed someone. This means regular check-ins and follow up to ensure their needs continue to be addressed, as they adapt to a new life indoors.
